it turns out it's a lot easier to get to localhost when you don't accidentally spell it "localhoast"
in reply to momo

@moemoe I tried to ask google translate what the english version of the german "horst" was and it told me it's equivalent to the english word "horst".

NOT HELPFUL, GOOGLE

Yeah, Horst is Horst.

It's a german (I think bavarian) first name, but somehow started to represent a very dumb and unreflecting person, and is sometimes used as a swear word.

@moemoe oh I see! that explains why.

google translate seems to think it's a geology term

I would love to see Horst as a geolocical term. Although I don't have a clue what it could mean.

Our bavarian Horst is certainly a fault, and he's raised too. And also bounded by other political faults that still stay close to him.

@8petros localhoax is the official name of that trick I used to do on customer's computers:
see, you need to reinstall their email client, but 1. they don't know their password. 2. outlook won't tell you.

But outlook doesn't care if you change your mail domain to localhost, and run a tiny server on it that just listens to the username/password it's gonna send in plain text.

@barubary I used to run a meme image site and I would tunnel localhost to the living-at-my-parents-house version of the server because if I did it over SSH I'd not get throttled by my university's weird traffic shaping.

so it was my lolcathost

I was given a few old Toast tablets and I’m definitely naming at one of them ‘localtoast’. Thanks for that 👍
