If you have a website hosted on Hetzner, take it off from their servers immediately. This morning I woke up with my instance down and this message in my mailbox:
"Dear Ms...
We have noticed irregularities on your account, so we unfortunately cannot have a contract with you at the present time. We have therefore had to close your account.
In general, if customers give us incomplete or incorrect information, we have to close their accounts.
We cannot provide any information on individual cases. Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards"
Without giving any warning or reason, they deleted my account with everything inside (Thankfully we have back ups every 12 hours). I couldn't even log into their site to open a ticket. They deleted my entire instance.

I replied the email asking about what information was incomplete or incorrect. Their answer was "we can't provide you this information due to security reasons"
It was a Kafkanian situation. They didn't ask me for more information or indicate what was wrong. They didn't even warn me that something was wrong. They didn't give me at least 10 minutes to look for a new server. They deleted my account and any possibility of having access to their website in an unilateral decision. And I learned that, interestingly, this has already happened to another progressive instance. Another curiosity is that they host the website of AfD, the far-right-almost-nazi German party.

In other words: a progressive and feminist instance is overthrown without explanation. An LGBTIQA+ instance is also taken down with no justification. But a far-right website is comfortably hosted in there, for years now, because they are the good guys according to Hetzner.
Never, ever use their services.

Also don't expect hetzner support to go lengths for smol clients, that are like <10€ / month.
i mean what can be learned from that is, don't put all your eggs in one nest.

You should try the legal way may be.

was this hetzner cloud or a dedicated server? did you specify a name that doesn’t match your legal name or the one your payment provider has?
i’m curious because i’ve been with hetzner for 13 years and have had numerous abuse reports filed due to 0x0.st (like the ones attached), and it’s never been a problem even if i didn’t respond in a timely manner.

@iworx I didn't use VPN, I'm in Brazil. I signed up with my own name. We have the biggest instance in Brazil, feminist, pro-human rights, we have no illegal content, Alt text is a rule, because we have disabled people and we are all about inclusion.
And I have no clue what happened because they don't tell. Using "it didn't happen to me, therefore is not a problem" , is just lack of empathy. Good luck with these awful people.

It's complicated... Hetzner's HQ is in Gunzenhausen, looks like you'd need to contact the "Polizeiinspektion" there... but they direct you to a place that then says "this place does only there things, for everything else, contact the Polizeiinspektion directly". Meh.

That is a horrible service, and once again, stresses the importance of off-site backups. Even a weekly one, would be a lot more helpful than none.
I've experienced hosting companies that didn't register payments, and closed accounts. That burned to the ground. That got infected by ransomware and all clients (thousands) data was lost.
When looking for a better host, consider a greener one.
