Hey, folks. I hate doing this, but my family and I need help with money for food & gas. This is unfortunately going to be a regular request until I can get a new job. (See my pinned posts for my resume.)

We average about $35/day for food (2 adults, 2 kids) and $10/day for gas, if we are being cheap. Dog food is $22/week. So we need around $335-$340 to make it through the week, making sure everyone is fed and gets to school. Any help, however small, is deeply appreciated.

Please boost for reach! And remember, you can unboost and boost again to keep it visible.

Week of Jan 18:
Progress: $70/$340 (food/gas)

I just wanted to add: Thank you, to the community, for keeping us fed in this difficult time.

If you happen to have paid odd jobs that can be done remotely, I'd be happy to take them on. Please DM me with details. I'm skilled with automation and machine learning.

In the USA now crypto are pretty much promoted, so there should not be many obstacles.

You need a wallet (Metamask is not bad) to receive and send crypto, like any other currency.
You can generate a link for donations via trocador.app and publish it. They only offer prepaid cards and selling options.

Not terribly efficient, but workable.

in reply to Aaron

@8petros Hey, I went to MetaMask, but it's not at all clear what I need to do from here. Is the chrome extension required for desktop access? Is it better to just do it on my phone?
in reply to Aaron

@8petros I've come to the conclusion that I have no idea whatsoever what I'm doing. lol The user interface for trocador is really confusing and unintuitive. I finally figured out how to create an account and log in, at least.

Is it a bad idea to just share a public wallet link from MetaMask, and skip trocador altogether?

in reply to Aaron

Essentially it is just your preference, whichever device you feel more comfortable with.
Once you have your wallet securely set up, you can just publish its address for people to start sending a specific crypto you chose as your base.

Next step is to create a multicurrency donation link via trocador, where you put your wallet address as the receiving address, but people can send many different currencies, being exchanged on the fly.
For spending the money, the crypto card seems to be the easiest way.

Hey, Aaron. I sent you a week's worth of dog food 🙂 and a bit more.

I wish I could send more but I am sending out huge amounts these days, mostly to desperate people in Gaza.

Very best wishes.

I could really use a reboost of this, please. We are pretty tight today, only ~$25 left and attempting to figure out dinner. Please consider unboosting/reboosting so it pops up in people's timelines. Thank you all for helping us out!
in reply to Aaron

We are pretty tight tonight for groceries. About $10 shy of what we need. If folks wouldn't mind unboosting/reboosting, my family and I would really appreciate it!
in reply to Aaron

Actually, we had $25 in Venmo so we are good tonight, but the boosts would still help a lot!

(I always forget to check Venmo because most people use PayPal.)

in reply to Aaron

Down to $11 for tonight. I've been letting down on the editing & reboosting because I've been distracted with job search stress, and now we don't have enough to get dinner.
in reply to Aaron

We have just enough for dinner -- very tight, but doable. But we are completely out of dog food aside from what's in the bowl rn. Would anybody be able to help us out so our pooches don't go without?

We also habe another issue: Our car insurance has lapsed, and so has our vehicle registration. We need the vehicle in order to get the kids to school, since we are outside the bus routes, and in Texas, they impound your vehicle if you're caught driving without insurance. The registration being out makes it *way* more likely to be pulled over, so my wife is a nervous wreck (pardon the pun) every time she has to drive.

We need ~$300 total in order to get the insurance reinstated and cover the registration.

Right now we are subsisting on just enough money to eat and feed the dogs. Utility bills will be coming due soon, too, but they are less urgent right now.

Can anybody help us keep from falling deeper in the hole while I search for a job?

Please give this another boost, folks, if you don't mind. It would really help us out. This is high stakes for us.

Remember, you can unboost and then reboost again!

in reply to Aaron

We got the dog food and dinner tomorrow covered, thanks to two very kind folks' help. We still need help with the other stuff, but I'm a lot less panicky because at least everyone will be fed

I have a job interview tomorrow at 10:30am. It would help a lot if I could afford something decent for breakfast tomorrow. $12 won't be enough to even afford dinner for the kids tonight.

If you wouldn't mind, please unboost/reboost the original post so this gets seen. I really appreciate it!

We are down to just $2 -- if we round up. I could really use a reboost of this, if you're willing to help us out. The upcoming job interview isn't until a week or two from now, but the family still has to eat in the meantime. Many thanks!

@hadon Not a typo! Some of it was already spent, as it's a running total, but we got over $1k in a single day! This should keep us going for a over a week, even with the bills that have to come out of it.

I took some out of our food money for my medications. We are down to $15.67 for dinner tonight, and we have bills coming up, one of them urgent. Even if I ace the upcoming interviews, there's no way I can manage this in the meantime, so I could really use your help. Please unboost/reboost the original post. Thank you!

Medication: $94/94 (monthly expense, already paid out of food money)

Water bill: $174/174 (due 1/10)

Phone bill: $0/$625.78 (cut off date is 1/11, will have no internet w/o it and therefore unable to job hunt)

Electric: $195/$195 (urgent, cutoff 1/5)

We won't go hungry tonight as we have some canned beans stocked, but I'd like to hold onto those if possible, in case we get stuck even worse.

We have the food covered for the week, but we need a lot to catch up on the phone bill and keep from losing phone & internet. We only have a short time before that happens. I have job interviews scheduled this coming week, and I'm really afraid of it getting cut off in the middle of that and missing my chance to earn instead of begging. Please help us out if you can.

I really need your help, folks. We have that massive overdue amount on our phone bill, and a water bill due soon, too. I won't be able to job hunt or even come on here to ask for help if I don't get the phone paid by the 11th. I'm getting panicky about it at this point. I want to be able to support myself, but for that to happen, I need to be able to attend the remote interviews and get phone calls.

Please please unboost and reboost the original post above to get it in front of as many eyes as possible!

Our phone and internet will be cut off in 2 days (1/11). We still need $626 to pay that. (It's multiple months.) Without it, I won't be able to job hunt or ask for help feeding my children. This is terrifying.

Please boost this post, and the one it's in reply to. You can unboost the original post, and then it will let you boost again.

Apparently my wifi hot spot is *not* the solution I'd hoped it would be, for not having to pay for internet. I have run out of usage and it has throttled back so hard that I can't even get to the internet speed test page. I was able to load the Google landing page after some time, at least.

This means that I can't apply for jobs, much less attend any sort of interview that requires a live coding session to prove my skills, until my hot spot usage renews. But I'm two months behind on my internet payments, so I owe $131.90 to get it turned back on.

I don't want to ask for this because it's not necessary to survive and I already am completely dependent on the community. At the same time, this is my ticket to being able to support myself instead of asking for handouts. So here I am. Can anybody help me out with this?

We are *almost* prepared for the ice storm that might have us locked in for a week. We still need dog food (~$25), cat food (~$22), my metformin (~$13, assuming I can even get it refilled in time), and a few odds and ends that we weren't able to get on our first grocery run (~$25).

So around $85 should cover everything that we need to prep. We have almost $30 of that right now, so we need ~$60 to make sure we can cover everything without cutting it down to the last cent.

I could use another boost, please. We only have a few hours before we are out of time.

My wife needs gas money to make it home with the kids after school before the storm hits. $5-$10 should cover it. Can anybody help us? They get out in about 4 hours, and she's stuck in town waiting because it's already on empty.

(If you want to be extra nice, the car is our backup for staying warm if the power goes out, so it would help to have a full tank.)

I'm sitting on indefinite hold right now with NH DHHS after finding out yesterday that they recalculated our eligibility and revoked our Medicaid coverage without warning. I'm already making ends meet with past royalties because our expenses exceed my income. I can't afford an additional $2000-$2800 for a marketplace health insurance plan.

@zakalwe You have already helped us out tremendously. Please don't feel the need to apologize for not helping out. We are all victims of circumstances!

And in any case, someone else must have seen your boost, because we got the funds we needed seconds afterward.

You are my hero. Your relentless self-sacrifice, perseveration and honesty redefines the meaning of "bread winner" in these dark times.
And the supporting community, that emerged around you, defies the cruelty of capitalist modernity.
There is no more radical and revolutionary deed than unconditional love and support.
in reply to 8Petros [$ rm -rv /capitalism/*]

@8petros I appreciate the kind words, but I don't think I'm the hero in this story *at all*. I'm just someone who needs help and is asking for it, because it's the only option I have left. My heroes are the folks who continue to keep my children fed despite never having met them. I can't even begin to express my gratitude.
