Denmark has not found it relevant to spend tax payer money on a large military base on Greenland. Instead Denmark gives a yearly grant of 620 million dollars to the 57,000 Greenlanders, which is spent on everything in the Greenland budget including having free healthcare, free access to universities in Denmark AND a well functioning police force.

Vance now abuses that fact to claim that Denmark has not kept Greenland safe, and therefore Greenland should become American.

That's curious, he didn't tell yet that US have to denazify #Greenland like #Putin certainly suggested to #Krasnov.
Bizarre.

in reply to Randahl Fink

Kept it safe from what? Canada and Norway? Or do they mean that crime is ultra-high in Greenland? Or what type of safety are they talking about?

They just make things up to get whatever they want. This is how they treat one of their most loyal allies. Shame on them!

in reply to Randahl Fink

the language he used in that speech is very unsettling. That language is priming for invasion. It's the same language Putin used back before his troops invaded Crimes and then eastern Ukraine.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of additional military assets moved to that base, and that base expanded.

in reply to Randahl Fink

Denmark should demonstrate their defense of Greenland by shooting Vance's plane out of the sky next time he visits.

in reply to Randahl Fink

@rgulick they do. At one point playing by the rule will be ineffective.

I say it again : if half of the USA shitfest were occurring anywhere else, UN would already send blue helmets and observers.

in reply to Randahl Fink

"if we're so important why isn't he wearing a suit" - a real doggie that can pull sleds and shit, not some lame ass oligarch's meme money
in reply to Randahl Fink

I doubt Vance could have pointed out Greenland on a map before he was picked by the lunatic fringe to slither into the White House on Trump's coat tails.
in reply to Randahl Fink

They should never of let him into the country, We knew this trip would go sideways fast.
in reply to Randahl Fink

“Greenland must partner with the United States!”

Greenland has partnered with the United States. He’s standing right now in a United States base in Greenland, providing mutual security. If Denmark was responsible for this then well done Denmark.

He just wants to strip mine Greenland.

in reply to Randahl Fink

One thing I just sort of haven't really been able to quite figure out is why are nazis so *desperate* to attack other countries? It's never enough to just take over one country. I guess nothing less than the entire world will do?

Is it greed? Lust for power? White nationalism gone so extreme that they have to take over the world so they can commit global genocide because they can't abide any other "race" existing anywhere in the same world?

Why are they so desperate to start WWIII?

in reply to Randahl Fink

He turned up in casual clothes: having been part of a disgraceful and unwarranted attack on Zelensky about clothing. And just look at the expressionless faces on the military behind him. I do not think they like any of this at all.
in reply to HarriettMB

@HarriettMB Trump and Vance is creating a situation where US soldiers are no longer welcome in the country they are stationed in. I bet they are not too impressed by that move.

But on the plus side, maybe I will not have a US military base near my home in Jutland, because the Danish parliament is really furious.

in reply to Randahl Fink

I hope the American military is soon regarded as most unwelcome, and in fact a hostile presence in the many countries they have bases in. No one should be expected to grant a presence to a rude, ignorant, offensive squatter in their home. We wouldn’t allow it in our place of residence, and we shouldn’t allow it in our respective countries either.

it's very sad. I don't think anyone in America really expects him to tell the truth at this point. The left expects him to lie, and the right only wants him to further the agenda.

For the life of me*, I don't know how it started and how it can continue.

It's a deranged goal, but they can't stop pursuing it.

* - half Danish by ancestry which might give me a bit more perspective

in reply to Randahl Fink

@benroyce Hopefully Greenlanders will demonstrate to Vance how well they can defend themselves.
in reply to Randahl Fink

Europe is being naive. It should just send troops there asap, call it a military exercise and leave them there until the USA circus is over.

nice! You can join the rat poison of the USA or stay in a system where all needs are supported
in reply to Randahl Fink

I wonder what the Trump administration thinks a country should do with foreign visitors who criticize its government.
in reply to Randahl Fink

The fox in the henhouse discussing the lack of merits of the farmer.
in reply to Randahl Fink

I keep thinking he or Trump might at some point use the spiral case to manipulate the Greenlanders. They are relentless and don't shy away from anything they can use to obtain their perverted goals.
in reply to Randahl Fink

@annecavicchi The fact that Greenlanders have a unique culture that they for the most part have kept plus have been part of the Danish system for health, education and social benefits are not acknowledged by Vance proves his dysfunctional and abusive nature. Intelligent people (Danes, Greenlanders and Canadians) are not so easily fooled by the likes of him.
@Anne
in reply to Randahl Fink

As though every country that doesn't put guns before everything else is weak and deserves to be invaded.

But that's so American, though, not just Vance. Hollywood movies have been telling us that about the US for years. Not to mention the US gun culture. Guns = strong, dominant; no guns: weak and pathetic.

in reply to Randahl Fink

Vance should be persona non grata in Europe. Full stop. Kick him back to USA, so that he can spend time on #SignalGate

in reply to Randahl Fink

I would actually agree with (Donald) Vance. HOW in the world would Denmark let this dangerous man visit Greenland......TWICE? 🤔
in reply to Randahl Fink

I suspect that what happens next is some sort of 'incident' in which Americans or American interests in Greenland are attacked. This will then provide a pretext for a "limited security operation" which then extends to de facto full control of Greenland and its assets
in reply to Randahl Fink

The man simply doesn't get it, just like Mr. Putin. The only thing that matters is the opinion of the Greenlanders. How disrespectful and ungrateful JD Vance is! He should just visit the military base in Greenland, say thank you, and leave. How can you grant people like that, who can't keep their hands off sovereign countries, access to a US military force?
in reply to Randahl Fink

Greenland is on of three areas in the North that are opening for capitalist colonisation due to climate change. This predates Trump. Siberia is already between Russia and China. Canadian North seems to be a bit aout of reach (for now), so Greenland (already staked by the US, both in military and business way) seems to be a low hanging fruit.

As vegetation zones shift North, it is going to be a prime estate, while traditional colonial areas loose habitability.

in reply to Randahl Fink

BTW, how is the firearms law in Greenland? Would it be possible to evolve towards Swiss defense model? There are similarities...
in reply to Randahl Fink

Thnx for the facts.

Vance is a dangerous nut. Maybe even maniac.

in reply to Randahl Fink

Vance sounds like Mafia when he threatens Greenland and in parallel offers protection. 'If you do not pay for our protection Vladimir here will visit you and ruin your day. We will keep Vladimir away for a small price. An offer you cannot refuse.'
in reply to Randahl Fink

there is a lot of things we could or should have done for Greenland in the past and some we shouldnt have done. but exploit it for wealth, surpress the Greenlanders and build a yellow duck residence and a sea side resort for the ultrarich is not a thing we plan. I guess the Native Americans, the Inuits and 49% of the Americans would agree and just want to have an egg for breakfast. The US admins had and have 50% responsibility for providing their so called security.
in reply to Randahl Fink

Similar to what he said in the EU about the Romania election. Preposterous lies & double down on it.
in reply to Randahl Fink

it's strange because to my recollection the only recent threats to the country of Greenland have come from the US itself - it smells a bit like a protection racket - "join us and give us your resources and we'll keep you safe, otherwise we will take your country..."
