America is receiving an invaluable lesson on the social construction of crime as well as the framing standpoint of mass media and I really hope it sticks
Media, politicians, and police: "This sort of criminal behaviour is a signifier of the deep rot at the heart of the civility of our politics and it must be cracked down on with law and order."
Normal folks: "Oh, so it's a crime to kill him but not for him to kill my aunt? Eat my entire ass."
You'll always find, in the final analysis, that all crime and all law exists simply because those in power decided it would be better that way. When you reify law, when you acknowledge these definitions of crime, you are siding with these centers of power.
This is not to say that everything illegal is good or vice versa - the world is obviously not so simple as that. Only that you should retain your own agency and moral compass autonomous from the state. And yous are doing great today 😘
In another final analysis, where you start your thinking predetermines where you end up.
If you start thinking that those in power are quite separate from common folks and this is inevitably, unchangeably so, you end up uttering anarchist propaganda, essentially hating whatever the state does.
I think power can not only in theory, but also in practice be derived from the consent of the common folks. I strive to make that happen and end up supporting democracy and rule of law.
@dj3ei That separateness is a fundamental component of what the state *is*. Were it not separate, it would not be the state, and we would not be having this conversation.
In my thinking and experience so far, anarchism is a classical closed belief system. It is based on the irrational unproven root belief institutional governments are fundamentally evil.
As is typical for closed belief systems, its followers are well-trained to explain a lot, starting from their root believe.
@dj3ei And your "thinking and experience so far" is just rote regurgitation of liberal ideology and all its irrational and unproven beliefs. But of course when your faction holds a hegemonic position, it's easy to naturalize it and pretend it's not an ideology at all.
So how about you fuck off out of my replies instead of pretending that I'm somehow the only person on earth who's never heard of liberal political theory. Prosyletize your religion elsewhere.
You popped into my timeline. I will not let a (to mirror your words) "irrational and unproven religious belief" like yours claim to be a rational analysis result unchallenged.
I don't see no hashtags in OP. If you don't like what your follows are boosting, either turn off their boosts (I've got boosts turned for about 50% of my follows) or find better people to follow.
I suspect you'll find lots of stuff more to your liking on Bluesky.

In my thinking and experience so far, anarchism is a classical closed belief system. It is based on the irrational unproven root belief institutional governments are fundamentally evil.
As is typical for closed belief systems, its followers are well-trained to explain a lot, starting from their root believe.

So if you find the former "irrational and unproven", the same applies to the latter.
