An online friend may need to leave Texas with their children, both for economic and psychological reasons. Highly skilled tech professional, recently out of luck.

As my own initiative, I am trying to research some options for them. The worst "The Fifth of November" scenario would probably mean going south. Even the other option means that Texas will be even greater mess than it is so far.

So, where to? How? Any welcoming community for a foothold?

I know next to nothing about the US context (AMA about Eastern Europe instead), so all kinds of advice will be appreciated. This is a public thread, so the person involved will see it and may (or may not) decide to disclose themselves.
