A digital twin is a digital model of an intended or actual real-world physical product, system, or process (a physical twin) that serves as the effectively indistinguishable digital counterpart of it for practical purposes, such as simulation, integration, testing, monitoring, and maintenance. The digital twin has been intended from its initial introduction to be the underlying premise for Product Lifecycle Management[1] and exists throughout the entire lifecycle (create, build, operate/support, and dispose) of the physical entity it represents. Since information is granular, the digital twin representation is determined by the value-based use cases it is created to implement. The digital twin can and does often exist before there is a physical entity. The use of a digital twin in the creation phase allows the intended entity's entire lifecycle to be modeled and simulated.[2] A digital twin of an existing entity may be used in real-time and regularly synchronized with the corresponding physical system.
Now, dear fellow humans, tell me please: how are we going to be ungovernable, as the machine learning is in place, data vaults of corporate actors are overflowing: not just copromedia and public services registers, PRISM (who remembers such old news) and its likes, all kinds of commercial databases and the network infrastructure where we leave our traces daily.
How are we going to be ungovernable, when the All-crisis and tensions it generates is used as an excuse to push the limits of state and "justified legal interest" incursion into our digital and physical privacy? When we are watched, identified and profiled every time we interact with advanced surveillance cameras or an online medical services.
There are the happy few, who separated from the network soon and completely enough, so they may even live the rest of their lives still not-quite-governable, if they keep their profile low.
There are the happy innumerable crowds, who never stand out and never raise any significant flag, thus left in controlled and increasingly precarious peace, until their digital twins can be safely archived.
But what about these of us, who were not aware enough, desperate enough, or just born too late to avoid the from-the-crib surveillance?
We certainly need - like many times in history before - new strategies and tactics. New tools and a new kind of digital NeoLuddite approach.
It is not enough (if still useful and heartwarming) to sabotage and destroy our enemies' infrastructure. We need our own infrastructure. Our own knowledge and skills - to take proactive stance and start fighting pieces of freedom back from the overwhelming state-capitalist complex.
As it is with physical land, we desperately need to start unenclosing digital commons. And now.
Granted, we may expect that the All-crisis tsunami may destroy large areas of surveillance capitalism, either through violence, natural disasters or infrastructure failures. But it is not only too late, too little. Unless we embrace highly egocentric position, we need to think about people who would get abandoned without knowledge and tools needed to live outside of the control system.
My message is: if you relate to the picture I drew above, let's talk. There are certain resources and initiatives already in existence, but we need more, to build another area of education, agitation and organisation, so we can stay ungovernable now and help others in future as well.
To be continued soon... I hope.
