This week I've been mainly been reading, no. 193.

For a book group I've just read Liane Moriarty's Nine Perfect Strangers (2018) & while I enjoyed the plot & structure, it is rather over-written (or almost baroque in its expression). I guess I'm now so used to much sparser style of writing that I found this pretty frustrating to read; I just wanted less exposition. But Moraity has a sure hand on her story & delivers the successive plot developments well, which saves it

Browsing Hoopla

Oh look, Forever Material by Alexis Hall, I thought the next book after Boyfriend Material and Husband Material was going to be called Father Material…

…I wonder why they changed the red white and blue colour scheme on the cover…

…and used the exact same cover illustrations as for Husband Material?

🤦‍♀️

It’s the German edition of Husband Material.

(Also, 10 Things That Never Happened becomes The Lost Memory Project. I’m not sure why they change the title but still have it in English on the cover, unless that’s just a Hoopla thing)

The Music of Physics by George N. Gibson, 2024

Music is an excellent medium to introduce physics to novice scientists, as it provides an intuitive understanding of the physics of waves. The book is not restricted to purely musical topics. This is not meant to be a highly technical treatise on sound and musical instruments.
