Did you know that more is known about outer space than what goes on in our soil? Soil is where pretty much all land-based life starts and there are so many things we can do to take care of it! It's time to stop looking up, messing around and freakin' out - we need to get DOWN to tending the ground we live on!

For a great movie about how amazing soil is: kissthegroundmovie.com/

You Are What You Eat was written by Formidable Vegetable in celebration of International Year of Soils and celebrated by the United Nations as the 'official song of soil': instagram.com/p/BAVAtNEzDJL/?t…

Animated by Bigfish: bigfish.tv
Song written by Charlie Mgee, Mal Webb & Kylie Morrigan
Recorded by Michael Barker at Twisty Pole Studios - Rotorua, New Zealand.
Produced, mixed & mastered by Jim Moynihan (Spoonbill).

I've recently had a couple of American accented robot calls to my mobile, the first claiming I was going to go to jail because I hadn't done my tax return, the second that I was going to be deported because I hadn't completed my immigration application.

What's weird is that I'm in the UK and I've never even set foot in America.

Last night my partner and my friend had a friendly argument about whether Buffy or True Blood was the best 2000s vampire show and ended by agreeing to disagree, and that's what that phrase is for, not human rights

Surprising to see Youtuber PewDiePie (110M subscribers) publishing a video last night , "I installed Linux (so should you)" with a call to his community to join the platform, underlining the fun of customisation and DIY, in opposition to all the enshitification of Windows. His main point of friction for moving was Photoshop, and he explained how he made the effort to adapt GIMP to his needs. Always good to see initiatives like that shared to large audience.

@hellpie It sounds like a frustrating situation for many users. Hopefully at one point, a community with technical abilities will be able to (soft) fork the project into a place with a better moderated CoC and healthy community.
in reply to David Revoy

I feel like we're on the verge of a linguistic phenomena where the worst interpretation of "gimp" becomes less prevalent - and all because Felix screamed "GIMP" out loud and it's a nice competition to Photoshop. xDDD

10 LESSONS FOR STRONGER MOVEMENTS

Critique to build, not tear down
Organize, don't just argue
Movements win, not individuals
Perfection is the enemy of progress
Ego kills movements
Plan for the long game
Meet people where they are
Power doesn't care about feelings
Division is a weapon used by elites
Don't play along

in reply to Aaron

There is a difference between a movement recognising itself and being able to form opposition. Your dialectical question is therefore not logical. Bigotry is another internal division.

@DrALJONES @su_liam that would be straight up moderation. Blocking, defederating, etc are not shadow-banning. User-side tools like word filters and silencing or blocking wouldn't fit either even on the loosest definition of a shadow-ban.

The second paragraph of the linked wikipedia page acknowledges the definition I was thinking about as an evolution of the term, and I think it's the one that applies more often on modern social networks. The "algorithm hell" is definitely the most commonly used definition I've seen.

Regardless of the definition you like the most, on the fediverse you can't just get hidden from the masses, without knowing it, for talking about sensitive topics. You can be moderated, but if you don't like your instance or it's defederated you can just migrate to a more visible one.

@DrALJONES well then I have no clue by what do you mean by "shadowbanning" ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Here's how the fediverse and, by extension, mastodon servers work with each other:
w3c.github.io/activitypub/

And here your server's rules, which is the hardest policy you can get:
mastodon.social/about

Anything else is conspiracy theories, corrupted mods, or non-activitypub compliant server software.
