Countries on the edge of the Sahara desert are reversing desertification by just digging half circles.

The ground in these places is too compact for water to soak in during wet season which leads to flooding but digging these holes gives the water a place to stop and soak in. And they’re pushing back the desert with this. By just digging holes.

I half-remember some doco I saw through permaculture networks, in which a similar technique was used in the US to rehabilitate land that was part of the Dust Bowl.

The #CSIS reports that combat losses in this #war have reached 1.4 million: #Russia 1 million, #Ukraine 400,000. Over 1,000 armored vehicles, 3,000 IFVs, 300 artillery units, and 2,000 tanks have been lost. Russia’s equipment losses are five times Ukraine’s. Russia has lost more soldiers here than in all post-WWII conflicts combined.

Ukraine has no choice but to continue. Russia could end it immediately, yet chooses not to.

The Russian population has suffered a lot because of this war, and if Putin c.s. ended it without being able to claim a clear victory, they'd have to fear for their position. So even if the war can't be won, they want to continue it as a way to delay the inevitable.

@sibrosan
oh really?? what about Ukrainians? What about population of the countries where russia has been waging wars? Like Syria, Sakartvelo (aka Georgia), Moldova, Ingushetia, Dagestan, Chechnya and many others. Btw, do you count Chechenians as "russian population"? Who is russian to begin with?

@nastasime

Sorry, I didn't understand your question. If you'd like, you'll find discussions about who Russians and smaller ethnic groups are in the link in my first message. As well as in the previous posts on my blog.

it's more the question to the comment saying that russian population suffers from this war

And to you my question is about the red star on your avatar. wtf is that?

@nastasime The star on the back is a symbol, and everyone is free to interpret it as they see fit. It accurately conveys what I wanted to express.

If you're interested in my position, you can check it out here: moscowmigrant.com/about/

symbol of what? and what did you want to express?

your position is good. keep talking. But also invite the colonised people to speak for themselves. Because, not sure if you've noticed, but Europeans listen more eagerly to metropolitan than to victims of colonisation. And that is wrong

I think you missed my point. I have no particular compassion for the Russians.

Consider this: as long as the war goes on, the Russian people may accept the hardships they endure as a consequence of it, because the regime can blame it on "the enemy".

But that may well change if the war ends, with the regime having little to show for it.

So I expect Putin c.s. to continue the war out of fear for a popular uprising, because that would be the end of them.

@sibrosan I understood and have the same point of view.

@sibrosan

That's right, for Putin personally, ending the war is more dangerous than continuing it. But it's also true that the longer this war goes on, the worse the consequences for Russia will be.

I wanted to emphasize an important point - this war cannot end with Ukraine's defeat. That would only be a pause before a new war in Europe. It can only end either voluntarily on Russia's part or with Russia's defeat.

Danke an alle, die #DeltaChat zu einer funktionierenden, unkomplizierten und föderierten #Messengen Alternative gemacht haben!

Minneapolis to Feds: “Get the Fuck Out”

How People in the Twin Cities Responded to a Federal Raid

crimethinc.com/June3Minneapoli…

An array of federal agencies attempted to carry out a coordinated raid in Minneapolis on the morning of Tuesday, June 3, precipitating an angry response. Locals surrounded the federal officers and police, chanting “Get the fuck out!” and eventually forcing them to retreat.

We present two firsthand accounts of the events of June 3 along with a few strategic reflections on how best to resist these raids.

This text includes footage by Taylor Dahlin (bsky.app/profile/taylr.bsky.so…).

Thrilling story time~

A lady living next door mentioned to me that she'd lost many photos of her late husband when her old laptop died. I asked if she considered taking the hard drive out of the laptop to recover the photos. She told me she did not know she could do that, and, moreover, a person at the computer shop told her there was no guarantee the data could be recovered, and it would cost a lot of money.

Long story short, I took the hard drive out of her old laptop and tried to connect it to our home computer. The disk didn't power up.

I looked closer and noticed signs of rust on the disk's board. The situation seemed a biiit hopeless.

But my fiancee washed the board in alcohol and removed the busted capacitor that caused a short between VCC and GND... and the disk powered up.

It is not working well (it keeps complaining about stuff on the dmesg board), but it works well enough to copy gigabytes of photos stored on it.

Happy end~

It's great when someone with a tech inclination can help their less techie friends and neighbours. Just wanted to say thank you for helping her recover her priceless photos.
